OUR WORKSHOPS
In Paris (France)
Most of our creations are designed in our workshop in Paris. This meticulous work is done by myself: Feryma (hello 🙋🏾♀️).
In Abidjan (Ivory Coast)
We work closely with artisans based in Abidjan (Ivory Coast). This allows us to promote Ivorian craftsmanship and culture by merging modern and traditional styles.
OUR MATERIALS
Baoulé weights (Akan weights)
The heart of each Nafolo creation is imbued with the deep meaning of Baoulé weights (Akan weights), powerful objects that represent the history, tradition and cultural richness of Côte d'Ivoire.
Baoulé weights (Akan weights) are small bronze or brass figurines that date back to the 13th century and were originally intended to weigh gold, which was the dominant currency at the time. These weights featured various shapes, geometric symbols, animals, portraits, and weapons, and were used as currency. The Akan or Baoulé people, originally from West Africa and present in several countries such as Ghana, Togo, and Ivory Coast, still consider Baoulé gold to be precious and sacred. It is used for important ceremonies and to adorn the finery of kings, symbolizing wealth. Some Baoulé weights (Akan weights) are passed down from generation to generation within certain families, reinforcing their value as a symbol of wealth and cultural heritage.
A Commitment to Sustainability
Both ethnic and ethical. We are deeply committed to preserving our planet. That is why we use sustainable materials such as bronze, leather, glass and wood for our creations. Each piece of jewelry is designed with respect for the environment in mind, with the aim of minimizing our impact on the planet.
